Data source
A place where data comes from. Internal (for example, the data we gather in services) and external (for example, website performance data from Google Analytics).
Definition
A data source is the location of data about the thing you want to measure. It’s usually where data is collected or stored, and is available for analysis with the necessary permissions.
Data sources can take a variety of formats and include things like Google Analytics, surveys, helpdesk enquiries, feedback forms and service data (for example, submitted applications).
When looking for data sources, it’s important to document and consider their availability and accessibility. This means considering how easy the data sources are to access and whether they have the data you need. Additionally, it’s imperative to look at the capability, in other words, whether you will need extra skills or support to be able to pull useful insights and create reports with the data. By doing this, it ensures that the data is practical for the team to use.
